2017 Tatter Scholarship Recipients


Ryan DeMorrow (Michigan State University)

Ryan is pursuing a Bachelors degree in Horticulture.  He has worked for Cherry Bay Orchards for the past seven seasons involved in various aspects of tart and sweet cherry production.  When he graduates, he would like to work full time as a farm manager for Cherry Bay or another large-scale fruit farm.  He is also hoping to someday operate a small-scale fruit farm on his own.


Christopher Gottschalk (Michigan State University)

Christopher is a PhD candidate in the Department of Horticulture.  Areas of emphasis in his studies and research include plant breeding, genetics, and biotechnology.  His PhD research project is titled, "Understanding the Mechanism of Repression of Floral Initiation by Fruit in Apple." His research will focus on the effect of fruit load on genetic regulation of apple trees.  Christopher would like to eventually do apple breeding research.
